I found this Colorado on the lot of my local Chevy dealer recently. I think it looks great. I love that light bars seem to be making a comeback (although I’d remove the bolt on side panels from it). It’s definitely all the truck I would need.

Kinja'd!!!

The problem? Check out that sticker price.

Kinja'd!!!

Focking hell!!!!

Forty four THOUSAND dollars!!!! You have got to be kidding me! It’s not even a diesel!

The Chevy dealer I bought the Explorer from has one optioned just like that but in red and it’s about the same price. It’s been on the lot since November lol. That said if I won the lotto it would be one of the first things I’d buy

I could buy a Tacoma TRD Off-road 6 speed for that, plus a decent Miata with mods. CP.

Can lightbars that far back and that low profile actually do anything other than light up the tree canopy?

Yeah, the Colorado can get pricey fast. Thats the thing I can’t quite put my finger on with the Colorado; I know people just say “get a fullsize for the same price or less” and while that’s generally true I’ve always defended the statement that a fullsize doesn’t work for a variety of truck uses, but primarily off road...but given that the Colorado isn’t particularly great at off road and is really setup more for people a Silverado 1000 its harder to defend. I mean, yeah its still going to be easier to park and drive and all, and i’m sure it can be made very capable and all but it seems like its Rasion d’etre is for people who want a truck for truck things, but smaller and not the “activity mobile” purpose of the Tacoma. Which makes me really reconsider the whole “just buy a fullsize” argument, given that you can get a Silverado with the excellent 4.3 for less do more truck guy stuff with it. Heck, get a 5.3 and you wont even be loosing out on mileage. I guess they are selling but at that price point it doesn’t make a lick of sense to me.

Is a Trail Boss akin to a TRD Pro, or is it mostly appearance?

Wonder if GM is dealing on these at all now. Last year when I bought the Taco, Chevy/GM wouldn’t budge much from sticker since inventory was so tight.

Wow. That is impressive. Apply the same price to a full size and you’d get everything you would need/want out of a truck.

Agreed on all counts. Although I think the Colorado would be fine off-road if you remove that air damn, unless you just want the smaller truck, they’re a pretty hard sell.

The Colorado can be made to go off road, but it requires more work than a Tacoma that has made top level compromises to achieve that goal. Example: those high floors that people complain about in the Tacoma mean the door sills are higher off the ground so that you don’t NEED as large a lift to achieve the same clearance in places that most people don’t think about but make all the difference in the real world.

Excellent points. Personally I find Tacomas uncomfortable, although the new ones are not as bad. A coworker of mine is picking up his new Taco on Monday. When I suggested he look at the Colorado as well (just to evaluate the competition), he looked at me like I had three heads.

Taco buyers...they are fierce loyal. I can’t see the point of NOT checking out the competition personally but I do see why people like the Tacoma. For example, I always discounted the Frontier, but after seeing one on my maze trip do its things with a lot of grace and relative ease...I was impressed.

I’ve also screwed myself in the past by buying a midsize truck for the the task I think I would need it for, only to need more capability later

Midsize trucks are great for people who might never need a truck, but want one. Not for people who need a truck, and don’t want to spend more money than they have to.

I was at the Chevy store this morning looking at them and was floored! $30k for a 2wd base model!

A 4x4, extended cab F150 XL with the 5.0 and FX4 off road package is $37k.

If I could only pull the trigger on it..

The problem with the Frontier is the reliability. They apparently are plagued with trans issues. When my employer bought our Tacoma, they also bought a Frontier in the same timeframe. After 3 transmissions and 1 engine replacement, they got rid of it. The Tacoma has needed a clutch or two in nearly 300k miles, though it has developed a fun trick. If you hit a bump hard enough, the heat stops working.

I would think it is more for behind. Think tailgating later at night, loading up the truck after hunting/fishing, putting a bike in the back, etc.

IMO if you want extra lights in front, just install a bull bar and mount on there.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I’ve heard about the transmission issue, but I hear an aftermarket trans cooler goes a long way towards fixing that. As for the heat...Sounds like an air bubble

Dude my friend has been trying to find a decent used 4x4 Nissan or Toyota and the prices used are nuts. For whatever reason trucks are in and not cheap. I saw a Raptor for $48k at the Audi dealer, seems like a better option!
